Could the Increase In the Amount of Time Teens are Spending Online Be Harmful?

Director, Lisa Honold, spoke on KOAT’s morning news about the rise in amount of time that teens are spending online.

According to a recent survey, almost 50% of teens are online almost constantly. This includes using social media such as YouTube, TikTok, and Facebook.

While using social media in moderation can be a great way to stay connected, being online constantly can hinder the growth and development of relationships with adults and others that could positively assist teens who are experiencing a crisis or other tough time.

While parents may feel a bit helpless in the struggle to assist their teen in finding a healthy balance between being online and offline, a good place to start would be restricting their phone use at night to reduce the amount of time spent online.
